Yeah, I haven’t decided yet if he really believes that, or it’s something he’s trying to convince himself of, or it’s another outcome of the British tendency to self-deprecation. In any case, it’s unrealistic, poor man.

I think he would think it sounds boastful to admit he his prepared for being recognized. But he must know. Certainly during the PR world tour. Not sure what happens when the whirlwind is over. It seems to me, he dressed carefully, knowing he would be photographed. Not sure you know he hired a stylist to dress him for the red carpet?

He will be recognized, but i think only a fraction of times that, say, Freeman will be – because of all the makeup. Only people who go an extra mile, such as googling him , or watching PR events, would be able to spot him. My evidence is anecdotal, but I know that none of the men i’m closely familiar with would do any of it. I’m not even sure they would bother to remember the name of the actor, no matter how much they love the movie.

OK — and let’s admit: we only have this photo because he was underway with Freeman. That’s who the photographer cared about. So rule number one is: don’t hang out with people who the photographers care about.
As far as fans go: do you have any male friends who are Tolkien fans? I’m not saying this is going to turn into a Tom Cruise situation, but he will be recognized by fans and there are a lot of potential fans out there already.

IF he catches the public’s eye in the movie and on the red carpet, he will be recognized for himself soon. And looking like this and being the tallest and most attractive of the group, how can he not?

Let me put it this way. If I had no idea who Richard Armitage was, and I saw this divinely attractive man at an airport or restuarant or on the street, he’d get my full attention. The guy stands out in a crowd.
And knowing how he’s looked at previous red carpet events, I can only expect him to dazzle at the Hobbit premieres.

At previous events he managed to fly under the radar because he was neither a lead nor a nominee but this time he will be pushed forward at least as one of the important group. And with all the others looking either dwarfish or hobbity…

I think about how he skulked in the back during the photo op after the first Hobbit press conference.
But I don’t think he’s going to be allowed to do that anymore. He is definitely being promoted as one of the stars of this film. Every magazine that has been devoted to the film has him prominently placed right up there with Martin and Sir Ian. We see quite a bit of him in the promos.
And, yeah, other than Graham, he is the most physically imposing fellow in the cast, looming over a lot of his castmates. And he’s gorgeous.

I think NZ press will probably pay a lot of attention to the Kiwi actors, but at the other premiers it seems there will only be a smaller group and this group will also do the “world tour” and the majority of PR appearances – mostly PJ, MF, RA and AS. I think Sir Ian is only scheduled for London.

yeah, I was thinking — his whole life he’s flown under the radar personally, as counterintuitive as that may seem for a performer. He did it as a kid and a teen and even as an actor on British prime time TV and he probably he thinks he can keep it up. I doubt it; but I hope he gets what he wants.

First class or not, a 24 hour flight is a killer and i can’t believe how good he looks. I was once upgraded to first class and the only difference at the end was the additional hangover.

OK, there is so much that I could say about this picture, but I’m simply not capable of making logical sentences; I look at this picture and my mind goes blank! When is RA going to realise that he’s killing us by being so humble and sweet and intelligent and then looking like this (if this does not earn him sex-god status with audiences across the world, the people of this world must be blind!)?!
By the way, is that John Porter’s leather jacket? Are the boots a clever way of keeping a link to Thorin alive so ‘stepping into his boots’ again next year will be easier?
I can’t get over how happy and relaxed he looks – ‘satisfied’ is the word I would use to describe his state of mind, I think. I couldn’t be happier for him!! *Goes away to look at PJ’s video blog and the new pictures…again*
