• Harper Collins announces book tie-ins for The Hobbit. Remember when “the film book” was just a copy of the — om — book? We’re all about to be merchandised out of our wits, I think.
• Hilarious dystopian (or not?) comment on what might happen if Richard Armitage tweeted.
• On not switching from “the Arms” (love this) to “the Hiddles.”
• If you had a hard time spotting Mr. Armitage in Todd Garner’s tweeted pic this week, as I did, here’s some material to help you practice. This is really fantastic photoshopping.
• Reviews of The Hobbit Annual 2013 are coming back positive (albeit with a lack of interest on the part of the adults I follow in doing the puzzles). Don’t know where mine is, though. Hmmm. Royal Mail, what’s up? I guess FedoraLady got hers today, too.
• On the lines around Armitage’s eyes. I always wondered where they went after Cold Feet, in which Lee had really pronounced crow’s feet. Honestly, although I like them, I can imagine he’d potentially intervene with more minimally invasive measures such as collagen or whatever, and I wouldn’t hold it against him.
• A comic series, “Say nice things about Detroit,” about meeting Armitage in Detroit by one of the people who did it. (Since it’s on tumblr I’ll provide all the links I’ve found so far.) Part 1; and part 2; and part 3; and part 4.
• Armitage as work of art, a theme that’s also interested me from time to time. I’ve tended to think his body would have been best suited to be a Mannerist model.
• Ania’s been doing a day a week with an Armitage character, and I can’t decide which one I like best. Probably Porter (Thursday). But check them out! Remember that these posts are translated into English toward the bottom, so don’t be fazed by the Polish on top if that’s not your mother tongue. I admit though that, although I know like twelve Polish words, I love reading through the Polish to see how the names decline (change form) throughout the seven different cases — depending on the part of speech they play in the sentence (subject, direct object, indirect object, etc.). My favorite might be Standring, who becomes Johnem Standringiem after the preposition “z” (so I’m guessing this is the instrumental?).
• Netflix will return to streaming Vicar of Dibley in January 2013. How convenient!

• h/t Fanny Thornton — fanfiction.net purged something like 17,000 stories in May 2012 for being R-Rated.
• GB’s “One Last Try” goes to chapter 4. Some serious tearjerking tenderness here. Why didn’t guys write stories like this when I was in high school?
• “Hello, Cupcake.” Complete, humorous Spooks S9 fanfic at fanfiction.net (rated thirteen and above). Love the take on Lucas’ broodiness.
• “White Lady” — not sure if this is fiction or legend. Pretty either way. Guy of Gisborne / Marian.
• “Headmaster Armitage and his Rulers of Pain and Pleasure” — guessing you already know from the title what this is about, but: explicit! More explicit RPF at RAucous: “When the Trailer’s Rockin‘,” and “Cure for Blackened Chicken.“
• A John Porter fic, also at RAucous, also explicit: “Desert Storm,” part 1 and part 2.
• At “My Sort of Bloke,” a Sparkhouse fic called “Open Your Heart to Love.” All the chapters I can find are here. This is Standring plus the author, and it is NSFW / explicit.

OT:

• All about love? This film sounds great. Can Armitage be in the U.S. remake?
• By now you’re aware of this sort of trollish opinion piece in The Guardian charging that Jackson expanded The Hobbit to three films because he has nothing left to say. This is a matter on which I have not enough data to judge. Love this humorous reply, however.
• A father who told stories.
• I was annoyed because I was getting bombarded previews of David Byrne’s new album with St Vincent, but can’t buy the whole album till September 11. Then realized that that’s only a few days away. Where did August go?
• On the topic of whether Mr. Armitage can perform a credible U.S. accent in Black Sky, a matter on which I remain highly skeptical, this is kind of a rabbit trail, but funny. A colleague of mine forwarded it to me: a clip from a BBC Scotland series called Burnistoun. The actors speak what’s to me the Glaswegianmost Glaswegian, so I had to turn the volume way up to understand what they were saying (and they use vocab I don’t know, too). It’s a great persiflage of what happens when a local story gets “Americanized,” and especially of what happens when U.S. actors try their hands at a Scottish regional accent.
• This is the recipe I’d be making for my mom this week.
